'The Perfectionists' Will Take Place in the Pacific Northwest

More details are coming out about the Pretty Little Liars spinoff, The Perfectionists, and we’re getting really excited about it.

Showrunner I. Marlene King revealed to TVLine that the show will take place in the Pacific Northwest area, which is the same in the books.

“We wanted to be true to that, to Sara’s [Shepard, author] book,” she shared. “Plus, I really liked the way Rosewood became a character on Pretty Little Liars, [so I wanted to] have a new character, a new town.”

“Portland and the Pacific Northwest are so moody and creepy to begin with. That’s going to be a lot of fun to explore.”

Marlene also opened up about what would be different about the show versus PLL.

“Tonally, it’s very similar,” Marlene says. “There is a big mystery, and there is a murder, and there are some characters who are a fractured group at the beginning of our story, and through a murder they become friends.”

However, “it’s a whole new mystery, a whole new murder. We also have Alison and Mona coming from PLL to Beacon Heights, and that’ll all make sense when you see the pilot.”

We’re all anxious for more details about The Perfectionists — and showrunner I. Marlene King is delivering!

Speaking with ET recently, she dished about locations, just which other Pretty Little Liars characters might pop up and bringing in important male characters into the show.

“I felt like just as we were getting sort of into season five and six of Pretty Little Liars, our guys became such an important part of the show,” she says. “I wanted to explore the relationship between guys and girls who can be friends and not necessarily boyfriend-girlfriend.”

Marlene says that they’re looking to shoot the pilot in Portland and are “in the process of rewriting [the pilot] just to fine-tune it perfectly… we’re super excited about it.”

As for any other PLL characters to pop up, she didn’t rule anything out — even when it came to Emily (Shay Mitchell).

“Well, we’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased.

As soon as the Pretty Little Liars spinoff, The Perfectionists, was announced with the cast, all of us were wondering just which other Liars would be guest starring.

Shay Mitchell‘s Emily could or could not be appearing; we’re still not sure on Ashley Benson or Troian Bellisario, either. But for Lucy Hale, it’s a no.

Speaking with TV Guide at the TCA Press Tour over the weekend, Lucy confirmed she won’t be part of it.

“I don’t think I will be in the spin-off,” she shared. “I will definitely be supporting and watching. I think they’re actually going to film in Vancouver, so I might go like stalk the set a little bit.”

Lucy adds that it’s Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse‘s time to shine with the show.

“I’m thrilled for them. I think that they didn’t always necessarily get their moments on the show, and I love both of their characters so much, so I’m very excited and happy that they’re going to get to shine and do their thing.”

The Perfectionists still has yet to start filming or get a premiere date.

'The Perfectionists' Announces Character List for 'PLL' Spinoff on Freeform

The Perfectionists is starting to fill in its’ cast of characters.

In a new item from TVLine, the site reports that the show is seeking six (6) new faces for the upcoming show, a “spinoff” of sorts for Pretty Little Liars, which will also star Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish as Alison and Mona.

Here’s the book summary: In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them.

They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke…until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.

Will Brant Daugherty aka Noel Kahn Be on PLL Spinoff 'The Perfectionists?

Will Brant Daugherty aka Noel Kahn Be on PLL Spinoff 'The Perfectionists?

As far as we know, Brant Daugherty‘s character on Pretty Little Liars is dead.

We mean, we all saw him get killed and beheaded with his own axe on the final season — but then again, we also learned that people who “die” on the show, don’t actually die, either. Prime example: Mona.

So, it’s not totally out of this world if Brant would to make an appearance on the spinoff, The Perfectionists…would it?

“It would be tricky,” he admitted to ET. “They could put my head in, like, a jar maybe or flashbacks maybe. Marlene [King], if you’re watching, we can use me in flashbacks.”

Brant adds, “We’re going to see how quickly they can reattach my head, and wherever medical technology is at in the next six months, we’ll find out.”

TELL JJJ: Do you think Brant’s character could pop up for The Perfectionists like this?

Shay Mitchell Knew About 'The Perfectionists' Spinoff Before 'Pretty Little Liars' Ended

Count Shay Mitchell as a real life Pretty Little Liar — because girl can keep a secret — all of them can!

It turns out that it wasn’t just crossover stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish who knew about The Perfectionists, but it was all of the cast.

“I’m so excited to see Sasha on that,” Shay told EW last night at the Revolve Awards. “It’s something that they were talking about before we even finished [PLL], and all of us were so supportive.”

While she won’t confirm if her character Emily Fields will pop up on the program, she will be 100% supporting it.

“Obviously we have a huge fanbase of PLL and nobody wanted to see it end. I think this is going to be a great substitute for that,” Shay adds. “A lot of the fans will enjoy seeing what takes place later on, so I’m really excited to watch it.”

Janel Parrish Has Known About 'The Perfectionists' For a Year

Pretty Little Liars fans were able to breathe a collective sigh of relief last month when it was announced that Janel Parris and Sasha Pieterse will be starring in The Perfectionists, a spinoff for the series.

While the news is fresh and exciting for us, Janel revealed that she has known for about a year!

“I am very very happy to be taking this break to being doing Grease because I’m actually going back to the Pretty Little Liars world in March to film the pilot for the spin-off,” the 28-year-old actress told Jax of KISS 92.5.

“But I’ve known about it for about a year so it’s really exciting to be able to talk about it,” she continued. “It’s made the end of Pretty Little Liars a little less sad because I knew we were able to bring it back.”

When Janel has a secret she really can keep it.
